About 90five

We are an independent, global design and development firm that partners with growth-oriented companies to launch, amplify, and reinvent how they connect with the world, blending strategy, design, and development into experiences that drive impact. We're a home for the obsessed, where 'good enough' simply isn't enough. Our international team of 26 minds is driven by a relentless pursuit of excellence, creating products, websites, and brands that people remember.

Since 2020, we've delivered 100+ projects and impacted 20 million users, working with everyone from early-stage startups to publicly traded companies. Our CEO, Niklas Johannknecht, remains actively involved in all projects, eliminating layers of politics and bureaucracy while ensuring direct mentorship and strategic guidance.

About the role

We are looking for someone who turns ideas into high‑fidelity 3D experiences. You will concept, model, texture, light, and render assets, environments, and motion that feel polished and performant across platforms. You’ll collaborate closely with product designers, engineers, and marketing to ship visually stunning, technically sound 3D deliverables that enhance usability and tell clear stories.

Working directly with our design and development teams and international colleagues across Münster, Sofia, London, and NYC, you’ll be part of focused teams that work on only two projects at a time, enabling deep craft and exceptional results. To maintain efficient collaboration, you must be located in CET, GMT, or EST time zones with availability during our core working hours.

You’ll work within our core principles of overdelivering on velocity and craft, owning every decision with transparent thinking, and obsessing over the details that matter while stripping away unnecessary complexity.

Your responsibilities

In this position, you will be responsible for:

• Translating product and brand concepts into production‑ready 3D assets and scenes for real‑time and pre‑rendered use.

• Building clean, optimized topology, UVs, and materials; establishing scalable pipelines for LODs, instancing, and asset libraries.

• Driving look‑development: defining shaders, lighting setups, color, and rendering strategies that balance fidelity and performance.

• Creating expressive animations and motion for products, interfaces, and marketing; delivering rigs and keyframe/physics‑based animation as needed.

• Preparing assets for multiple targets: WebGL/Three.js, Lottie, Rive, and renders; partnering with engineers on performance budgets and formats.

• Prototyping quickly to validate ideas, then polishing for final delivery with precise QA, documentation, and version control.

• Contributing to art direction, style guides, and reviews; mentoring teammates and elevating the overall 3D bar.

About you

We are looking for someone who embodies the following qualities:

• Obsessed: You love pushing materials, lighting, and form to achieve believable, emotionally resonant results.

• Detail‑oriented: Meticulous about topology, texel density, scale, and continuity across assets and shots.

• Collaborative: Thrives in cross‑functional teams, pairing with designers, engineers, and marketers to solve constraints together.

• Problem solver: Comfortable breaking down complex visuals into efficient systems and repeatable pipelines.

• Clear communicator: Explains trade‑offs and technical constraints to both creative and non‑technical stakeholders.

• Systematic and pragmatic: Strong scene organization, naming, and versioning; knows when to prototype and when to perfect.

• Growth mindset: Curious about new tools, renderers, and real‑time workflows; eager to share knowledge.

• Reliable and accountable: Manages deadlines, gives realistic estimates, and owns quality from brief to ship.

What you bring

• 6–10+ years of professional 3D experience in product, games, motion, or interactive; or 4–5+ with an exceptional portfolio demonstrating mastery and innovation.

• Strong understanding of modeling for real‑time and cinematic: clean topology, UV unwrapping, baking workflows, and LODs.

• Advanced shading, lighting, and rendering in real‑time and offline contexts (Cycles/Arnold/Redshift, Eevee/Unreal/Unity).

• Solid grasp of color, composition, and visual storytelling; ability to define and apply a cohesive visual language.

• Motion skills: rigging fundamentals and keyframe animation for objects, cameras, and UI/UX micro‑interactions.

• Experience preparing assets for WebGL/Three.js, Rive, Lottie, and AR frameworks; familiarity with formats such as glTF/GLB, USD, FBX.

• Excellent communication, presentation, and collaboration skills.

• Proven track record of shipping high‑quality 3D deliverables for products, marketing, or interactive experiences.

• Flexibility and solution focus under changing scopes and timelines.

Benefits

• Remote: Internationally distributed team with flexibility to work remotely or from one of our Hubs. We focus on outcomes, not hours.

• Flexible culture: Meeting‑light, autonomy to work when inspiration strikes. Independence and results over presence.

• Growth: Workshops, peer reviews, and access to evolving tools and pipelines so you stay ahead of industry practices.

• Community: Diverse team with cross‑department collaboration and regular off‑sites.

• Competitive compensation: Strong salary with performance‑based revenue‑sharing models and matching compensation for excellence.

• Additional perks: Period breaks for recharging, yoga & fitness membership, pro bono program for meaningful impact, and knowledge budget for continuous learning.

Might not fit if

• You’re satisfied with “good enough” and don’t obsess over materials, lighting, and presentation quality.

• You prefer to work in isolation without regular collaboration with designers, engineers, and marketing.

• You’re uncomfortable owning decisions that impact performance budgets, timelines, and product quality.

• You avoid giving and receiving critique and prefer to keep problems to yourself rather than asking for help early.

Principle

We are not looking for someone to just fill a spot, we're looking for someone that drives and shapes our culture and collaboration and wants to push things further than ever before. We believe that as a strong collective of obsessed minds, we can go far. Far beyond design and technology. Our core principles that influence the way we think and behave:

• Don't settle for "good": We believe every project deserves more than "good enough." Move fast, deliver with care, and consistently exceed expectations without sacrificing quality for speed. We're going the long way and ideating until perfection.

• Own every decision: We make our thinking transparent and take full responsibility for our choices. Every decision is explained, justified, and shared, so everyone is aligned. We surface problems early and invite honest feedback because openness builds trust.

• Obsess over details: We sweat the details that matter: design, data, and user experience. Strip away noise and complexity everywhere else. This keeps our work sharp, effective, and easy to move forward while helping us grow together.

• Lead with purpose: Every engagement starts with a clear mission and focused team working on just two projects at a time. We avoid distractions, ignore shiny trends, and keep our process lean so we can adapt quickly and stay true to what matters most.

Hiring process

  1. Portfolio review and expectation setting: We'll review your application and invite you for a 30-minute intro call to explore your background, story, and creative approach.
